You don’t have to live in Capitol Heights to go to KRU (but it helps)

Kru on Mt. MeigsKRU on Mt. Meigs – A contemporary neighborhood tavern

The historical Capitol Heights has a new addition – Kru on Mt Meigs, a local neighborhood tavern offering wine, beer, and cocktails in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

A glimpse of the future

Though most Montgomerians today only use Mt. Meigs Road to avoid traffic on Madison Ave, the dream of many in the neighborhood is to create a walkable commercial district where people may shop, drink, and eat.  Until the arrival of KRU, thirsty residents of Capital Heights had to drive downtown or down Atlanta Highway to wet their whistle. Mendel Brown saw the need and had a vision to create a local watering hole where he and his neighbors could enjoy a drink and each other without the added commute. The result is a quaint, stylish yet casual establishment that sets the tone for the street and the neighborhood.

Vinos, and Cocktails, and Beers – Oh my!

When going to specialty bar with a variety of friends and, subsequently a variety of tastes in alcoholic beverages, is that one always seem to draw the short end of the straw. Breweries don’t care a large wine selection, cocktail bars tend to neglect the beer list, etc. At KRU, the balance between wine, beer, and cocktails is perfect. There is something here for everyone. With a wide and intriguing selection of bottled beers, a variety of wines (which you can add a shot to if you want an extra kick), and at least one specialty cocktail on the blackboard every night, you can’t go wrong.

Come with friends, or come alone

The best and most successful part of KRU is the atmosphere. You can come with a group of friends or by yourself. If you don’t know anyone when you get there, don’t worry. By the time you leave you will have made new friends. The clientele at KRU is as varied as the surrounding neighborhood and it will not be long before someone strikes up a conversation. Enjoy the Alabama sky on the lit patio, hang at the bar or wedge out in an oversized chair and enjoy the live music or a board game. No matter what your preference, KRU is a great little neighborhood gem, too great to pass up.

KRU’s doors are open Tuesday-Saturday 4 PM – 12 or later.
